The quarantine can certainly make you “bored-antine.” There are only so many sourdoughs to be made, Netflix specials to be enjoyed, and interior DIY projects to be done before you begin to feel a little restless. The thing is … you have to remain compliant with social distancing guidelines, in order to keep yourself and the members of your community safe.
However, just because your choices for activity outside the home are limited, it doesn’t mean they are completely non-existent. With that being said, here are 3 fun, socially distant activities to enjoy in Houston, Texas.
Visit the Houston Zoo.
The Houston Zoo reopened at the end of June with new health and safety protocols in place. Tickets must be reserved online and will not be sold on-site; therefore, your reserved slot is your assigned arrival time – so, you can’t show up 15-20 minutes early. Of course, you can stay as long as you wish, or until the zoo closes at 5:00 PM. All patrons over 10 must wear a mask to enter the zoo, but hey, a small sacrifice to make for a day well spent.
Take a photography walk.
Any Houston resident knows that H-Town is a very photogenic city and what better time than right now to brush up on your creative skills? There are plenty of opportunities for photos across Houston’s diverse, culturally rich neighborhoods, from the Inner Loop to West U. But, one of our favorite spots for Instagramable photo ops is Paul Carr Jogging Trail in The Heights with plenty of snapshot-worthy art installations, Victorian homes, and more!
Have a BBQ picnic outdoors.
Luckily enough for local BBQ enthusiasts, the full scope of Texas barbecue is represented in our great city of Houston, whether it’s the salt and pepper rubs of Central Texas cooked over pecan, oak, or mesquite wood, or the fall-off-the-bone East Texas-style grilled over hickory wood and marinated in a sweet, tomato-based sauce. We’ve got it all! If your mouth is already watering, consider throwing an outdoor picnic in one of the city’s many urban green spaces –Discovery Green, anyone? – with some authentic TX BBQ!
