Celebrate Dad with a 5K event worthy of the man himself! On Saturday, June 15th, Sam Houston Park will host Dad’s Day 5K, 3K and 1K Kid’s Run and Walk. Benefitting Tex US TOO, this is one heart-pounding event you’ll want to attend!
On race day, survivors, their families and friends, and local businesses come together to achieve two goals: raise funds for local education and support and increase awareness about prostate cancer. Celebrate Father’s Day weekend by participating, volunteering or contributing to the cause. Honor your dad, brother, son, uncle, grandfather and friends.
The event benefits Tex US TOO, the Houston chapter of Us Too International, a grassroots 501(c)(3) non-profit prostate cancer education and support network. There are 320 support group chapters worldwide that provide men and their families with free information, materials and peer-to-peer support so they can make informed choices about detection, treatment options and coping with ongoing survivorship. The organization was founded in 1990 by five men who had been treated for prostate cancer.
The Dad’s Day 5K start/finish line will be near Sam Houston Park on Allen Parkway, close to the intersection of Lamar and Bagby Streets. The course is on relatively flat, concrete or paved city streets. To satisfy City of Houston code and insurance requirements, no skates, roller blades, bikes or animals are permitted on the race course.
Kids can get in on the fun, too! There will be a 1K race for children 12 and under, and every participant will receive a commemorative medal. There will also be a 3K family walk, face painting station, music and water misters.
Register now for this awesome fundraising event! Registration ranges from $30 to $50. Act fast! The registration deadline is June 14th at 4:00 p.m. For more information and a full schedule of events, visit www.dadsday5k.org.
